skirt
Skirts are always in fashion. For women and for girls anyway. Actually, some fashionable men might have worn skirts in when skirts for men was the hottest fashion craze in menswear for Spring / Summer 2002.
For females, you can't go wrong with skirts since these are fashion staples year after year, spring, summer, autumn and winter. Yes, skirt lengths may vary as might the style of the skirts, but skirts in some form or other would be fashion staples for women and even little girls every year, every season.
What skirt is best?
- Pleated or straight?
- Pencil thin or circular?
- Micro-mini skirt or floor length?
It all depends on the trends, where you would be wearing the skirt, your figure and your age.
For starters, Fall/Winter 2007 skirts are generally just above the knee, or very long. Actually, skirt length is not as important as it was several years back. These days, anything goes. The important thing is what length are you comfortable with?
You should get skirts in varying lengths. At ver least, get
- One skirt that is floor length or at least ankle length for formal occasions
- One plain skirt that is just above the knee for work, or for when you want to look professional
- One short skirt as short as you dare for weekends, that is, if you still have the legs for such short skirts.
How to choose a skirt
A well chosen skirt is something you would find yourself wearing frequently. 3 factors you should look at when buying a skirt are
- Color
- Fabric
- Cut
Skirt Color
For a basic skirt you can wear with virtually all your tops, pick a neutral color. If you wear a lot of black, black would be the logical color you should pick for your skirt. If you wear a lot of browns, go for a brown skirt.
What is your figure like?
If you are top heavy, you can go for a light colored skirt to balance your figure. IF you have large bum you would like to minimize a plain, dark skirt would do the trick.
Colors are fun. If you want a printed skirt or a floral one, pick one which has colors that match your existing tops for a more coordinated look.
Skirt Cut
Currently, pencil skirts are hot. These are great if you have narrow hips like most models. If your hips are large, go for skirts that are slightly flared. Actually, a basic skirt for work or play should be tailored to fit your figure. Buy one retail, that fits your widest measurement. Then have the tailor alter it to fit you perfectly. That would be the best cut for you.
If you have hips more narrow than you like them, try pleated skirts or circular skirts with generous amounts of fabric that gives you wider looking hips. Pouf skirts and bubble skirts, when in fashion, are wonderful for women with boyish figures and who wish their hips were curvier.
Skirt Fabric
Cotton or velvet or denim or silk or chiffon or linen? They are all great for skirts. It all depends on the effect you want. For skirts that drape well, go for heavier fabric. For something light and breezy, cotton or chiffon would be good. Denim skirts are great for everyday wear. These are even more feminine than jeans for casual occasions. Leather skirts are downright sexy and perfect for autumn and winter. In fact, Fall/Winter 2007/2008 features plenty of gorgeous leather skirts. IMHO a girl should have at least one of each.
